We're excited to share our third interview post, where we sit down with a member of our team - Franta, the Product Owner - to discuss his area of expertise and personal journey. Don't miss out on this opportunity to gain valuable insights into Noxgames!

What’s your position and what are you in charge of?
- Product owner and Unity programmer.
- As a product owner, I have full responsibility for a particular game and its team. I’m in charge of planning and ensuring that the game reaches its full potential, but also that the team works as smoothly as possible. I identify priorities based on market research and the team’s input. And as a programmer and team member, I develop various functionality within the game itself - everything from user interface or physics to server communication.

What are your hobbies?
- I like creative activities, particularly building all kinds of models - out of paper, plastic or wood, but my favorite is LEGO. I’m not much of a sports enthusiast, but I do enjoy an occasional match of badminton. I also like reading and learning new things.

Why did you choose to work in gamedev?
- I wasn’t planning on working in the game industry at all, but I got hired when I was looking for an internship while studying, and I decided to stay. Even though I’m not the biggest gamer, I do enjoy developing games. Developing a game with a small team gives me an opportunity to try out a lot of new technologies and acquire new skills.

For how long have you worked in Noxgames?
- It’s gonna be 3 years this year.

How did your career journey start?
- As a junior programmer on a school-related internship.

What do you enjoy the most about the projects you work on?
- I like the diversity that comes with my job, there’s always a new challenge to overcome. Most of all, I like designing complex systems and tools that are going to be used not only by myself, but also by other people working either on my project or even on other projects.

What’s your position and what are you in charge of?
- I work as an Art Director and I’m in charge of games’ visual processing - from designing the concept to processing in a game engine. There are more graphic designers working on our games, so it’s important to keep unified style and vision, which is the essence of this position.

What are your hobbies?
- I like sports, I play mini football (we’re looking for gamedev football players) and pingpong. I also enjoy culture and going to vernissages, sometimes I fancy a beer. Oh yes, and a beef tenderloin.

Why did you choose to work in gamedev?
- As most kids, I just liked spending my time playing video games, so for me, this was a dream job.

For how long have you worked in Noxgames?
- For a long time, since 2005.

How did your career journey start?
- I’m self-taught, so I learnt most of the stuff online (as soon as I had internet). I watched 2D and 3D graphics and animation tutorials.

What do you enjoy the most about the projects you work on?
- I like the dynamics and diversity of development. Each game is somewhat different. Sometimes I like to create quick concepts, other times UI or animations.

What was the biggest challenge in your career?
- The transition from flash to mobile games development.

What would you recommend to someone who wants to work in gamedev? How does one become a new member of Noxgames?
- I’d recommend starting as soon as possible. There are even schools focused on gamedev nowadays. I definitely recommend staying in Brno and keeping track of gamedev events. Not only gawking at Instagram. 🙂

What are the 3 most important skills in your position?
- Attention to details, artistic talent, ability to work with graphic programs.

Jiri what are you responsible for in Noxgames?
- I take care of development and direction of the company and its people.

Tell us about your hobbies?
- I enjoy sports - I play volleyball, table tennis, I like relaxing in a sauna and hardening in cold water. I don't disdain a good book and when I find time, I like to play a PC/PS5 or board game. Otherwise, I spend time with my friends and family.

Interesting. Why did you choose to work in gamedev?
- Making games has been my dream since childhood. Even as a boy, I used to invent games with different figures from Kinder eggs and put them in worlds I’d created from construction kits.
How long have you been working at Noxgames?
It will be 18 years this year since my brother Peter and I released our first public game. It was 2005 and we were discovering the joys of game creation.

That’s a long time ago. How did you start your career?
- I bought a book of 1000 pages, Mastery of C++ and the book Making Games in Flash and learned how to program from both. I was rewriting the codes by hand, as we didn't have the internet yet. I enjoyed creating games in Flash more, because I could see the visual results quickly. I used to write scripts in my notebook while learning boring subjects in school and then transcribe them on the computer at home to save time.

What do you enjoy the most about the projects you work on?
- I enjoy the creative part when we form and develop ideas. I like participating in brainstorming sessions. I work best with my brother Peter, because he can comment on my sketches and ideas and then make such a nice assignment, that others want to work on it. Almost 20 years of working together cannot be denied.
